As a division of the Academic Support Services unit in Student Affairs, the Academic Support Center is dedicated to creating academically engaging communities and fostering a campus-wide commitment to learning. The primary focus of the Academic Support Center is to provide academic advising services for MTSU students with undeclared majors and students with courses in the Academic Enrichment program. In addition, the Center also coordinates learning communities, the community reading program and other academic initiatives.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Academic Support Center is to provide effective academic advising to all undeclared students and students in the Academic Enrichment program and to foster a campus-wide commitment to learning through initiatives such as living/learning communities, and the community reading program.

The Academic Support Center is committed to the growth and development of individual students and to the belief that, given appropriate assistance, students can take control of their own academic progress and achieve their educational goals.

Our objectives are to:

  • Provide effective academic advising for undeclared students and students in the Academic Enrichment program to increase retention and graduation rates.
  • Assist students in making well informed decisions by providing accurate information regarding general education requirements, academic programs of study, course selection, and university policies and procedures.
  • Assist students in accessing other sources of assistance and student support provided by MSTU and the community.
  • Assist undeclared students in major and career exploration to encourage them to declare their major upon completion of the general education requirements.
  • Assist students in learning how to remain in good academic standing, achieve better grades, and reach their academic potential.
  • Facilitate learning opportunities beyond the classroom through living/learning communities and the community reading program.
