What is the TOEFL test,
and who is required to take it for admission?
The TOEFL (pronounced TOE-full) is the Test of English as
a Foreign Language. The test measures proficiency with written
and spoken English only; it does not measure content knowledge
for specific academic subject areas. All non-U.S. citizens
are required to submit TOEFL scores unless they:
- are a citizen of Australia, the United
Kingdom, Hong Kong, Jamaica, New Zealand, Bermuda, Trinidad
and Tobago, or Canada (excluding Quebec).
- have a bachelor's or master's degree from
a US institution.

I want to drop a class.
Will my immigration status be affected by this change?
Yes, it may. Most students are in F-1 or J-1 immigration status
which requires that they remain enrolled in school full-time.
All F-1 students must be registered for at least 12 hours
in Fall and Spring terms to stay in status with the Immigration
and Naturalization Service (INS). If you have a question about
your status, don't hesitate to consult the helpful staff at
IPSO (615) 898-2238.

I want to study/work/volunteer
in another country. Where can I go for information?
MTSU's International
Education and Exchange Office, located in the basement
of Reynolds Hall, is the source of study abroad information
on campus. There you can fill out a simple form telling us
what you would like to do, where you would like to go, what
your prior experience is, etc. Then they will locate and provide
information from their ever-growing library of books, catalogs,
and brochures to assist you in your search for just the right
opportunity. They can also tell you about other people and
offices on and off campus that may be able to provide additional
information. You may purchase an International Student ID
Card that will give you generous discounts at places all over
the world.
