Things to Know
I have find that the label-in-the-margin system works great. I use it in all my college lecture courses. It is easy to apply, just divide your paper into two sections. Then write the questions in the outside margin, which should be on your left. After that, just answer the questions in the right side margin. Label-in-the-margin can be very effective if it is used and if it is done the right way.
I think the library unit is extremely important in study skills. It helps in finding your way around the new library at MTSU. I pickedup a lot of new information about a library in general because of the library unit. The library unit deals with a computer the majority of the time. If you are not an expert it will be all right because the librarians are very helpful. Pals, Infotrac, CD-ROM database, and the Internet are computer systems that you will become extremely familiar with throughout the library unit. I recommend looking forward to the library unit because it is not only educational, it's also fun.
The most important lesson I think anybody can learn is the goal setting strategies for yourself. Making goals for yourself is extremely important and should be done with every course you take in college. Make sure your goal is specific, because you need to make your goal clear from the beginning. Make sure your goal is measurable, so it can be reached. Another step is to make your goal realistic. The last step is to have a date of completion, so you know exactly when you need to reach your goal. If you follow these suggestions you will have a better tiem in study skills and your time in college will be a little more enjoyable.
