Students are conducted a soil fertility experiment in ABAS 3350 at the Horticultural Education Center. The procedure was developed at NCSU. The purpose of the experiment was to determine which fertilizer rate would: (1) minimize fertilizer leaching from post of ryegrass, (2) maximize plant growth, and (3) produce the greenest foliage color.
The experiment illustrates environmental concepts in groundwater protection (minimize fertilizer leaching) and improving air quality by increasing photosynthesis.
