PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This program involves the study of young children from conception to age 12, and the educational opportunities which enhance their social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development. This undergraduate program prepares individuals for teaching positions in kindergarten through eighth grade. Major emphasis is placed on early childhood development as well as the importance of quality family life.
EMPLOYMENT OBJECTIVE: Early childhood education teacher (grades kindergarten through 8th grade), programs for abused or neglected children, parent education programs.
DESCRIPTION OF HEALTH CAREER: Teaching - elementary (kindergarten through 8th grade), nursery schools, Project HeadStart, Classroom on Wheels, early intervention and enrichment programs
Director/Coordinator - home-based or hospital programs for convalescing children, therapeutic centers or protective custody, directing or teaching in child care centers or infant programs, and licensing counselor for the Department of Human Services.
