EDUCATION: B.S. (Biology) Rhodes College Ph.D. (Environmental Toxicology), Clemson University
RESEARCH INTERESTS: Fate and effects of chemicals in the environment; Uptake and biotransformation of metals by plants; Effects of aquatic plants on the biotransformation, movement and toxicity of chemicals in sediments; Benthic macroinvertebrates as indicators of water quality; Determination of the sources of fecal contamination in streams.
PUBLICATION RECORD: Author or co-author of ten papers or technical reports; Presentations at numerous national and international meetings; Reviewer for various environmental toxicology related journals.
PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS: President and Board of Directors for the Mid-South Chapter of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry; Past President, MTSU Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society.
Grant funding from the US Geological Survey, the USDA and the Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association; Contracts with American Cyanamid Company and the Bedford County Solid Waste Authority.
GRADUATE PROGRAM ROLE: Serves as thesis research advisor for several M.S. students and serves on the thesis committee of others.
