RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant to the Dean is responsible for coordinating
administrative duties of the dean's office, including
synthesis of data and material for college-wide reports for
analysis and planning purposes, coordinating and reconciling
budgets of the dean's office, providing information and
oversight in human resource management, and planning and
executing projects and special duties as assigned.
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Ms. Lawson obtained her bachelor's degree from Middle Tennessee
State University. She began working at MTSU in 1973 and assumed
her current position as assistant to the dean in 1999. She has
served as a trustee of the MTSU Non-Faculty Sick Leave Bank,
President of the MTSU Association of Secretarial/Clerical
Employees, chair of the P/VPAA Classified Employees Committee,
member of the President's Classified Employees Committee, and
member of the President's Commission on the Status of Women.
She received the university's Administrative Employee of the
Year award in 2004. Ms.Lawson is an active member of the
Murfreesboro Chapter of the International Association of
Administrative Professionals.
PERSONAL INFORMATION
Ms. Lawson is married to Dwight Lawson who retired from Nissan
in 2010. She has two daughters, Cristy and Jamie, both of whom
are married. Daughter Cristy graduated from UT-Memphis and is a
physical therapist. Daughter Jamie graduated from MTSU with a
major in recreational therapy and is a stay-at-home mom. When
not working, Ms. Lawson enjoys being entertained by her five
grandchildren.
