Minors That Complement A Chemistry Major
Three modifications are common:
-
The Biochemist
(19 semester hours in Biology)
Biol 1110, 1120 (8), Biol 2120, 2230 (8), Biol 3010 or 3020 (4).
Total=20 hrs
(8 of which are required for either chemistry major)
-
The Physical Chemist
(19 semester hours in Physics)
Phys 2010, 2020, 2011, 2021 (8), Phys 3150, 3160 (6) or 3400
(3), 3100, 3110 (6).
Total=20 hrs
(11 of which are required for an ACS approved major)
-
The Theoretical Chemist (19 semester hours in
Math)
Math 1910 (4), Math 1920, 3110 (8), Math 2010 (3), 3120, 3260
(6) - Math 1730 can be substituted for one of the upper
division courses.
Total=21 hrs
(12 of which are required for an ACS approved
major)
The Chemistry Minor
To qualify for a minor in chemistry, one must
take a minimum of 19 semester hours of chemistry. These hours
consist of CHEM 1110/1120 (8) and three more courses. At least 4
upper-division hours must be taken at MTSU.
Four modifications are common:
-
The Molecular Biologist
Chem 1110/1120 (8), Chem 3010/3020 (8), and Chem 3530 or 4500
(4).
Total=20 hrs
-
The Descriptive Biologist
Chem 1110/1120 (8), Chem 2230 (5), 2030 (or 3010 (4) and 3020
(4)), and Chem 3530 (4).
Total=21 hrs
-
The Adventurous Physicist
Chem 1110/1120 (8), Chem 2230 (5), Chem 4350/4360 (8)
Total=21 hrs
