Communication Studies is in the Speech & Theatre Department. Courses in Communication Studies focus on improving your ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people in a variety of settings. All of our courses stress the development of critical thinking skills and sound analysis. The MTSU catalogue contains official descriptions of the courses, but for student friendly descriptions (that often contain more detail), click: Communication Studies

Debate
Students receive practical training through participation in MTSU Debate. The debate program is open to all undergraduate students who are in good academic standing. For more information, contact the Debate Coach,
Mr. Patrick Richey, KUC 312, prichey@mtsu.edu
Internships
Internships are highly recommended for all students. An Internship allows you to apply information from your academic studies to a work situation and to gain valuable knowledge that can help you in job interviews and your future career. For more information, contact Dr. Janet McCormic, Jones Hall 344, jmccormi@mtsu.edu
Study Abroad
Learning about other cultures is particularly valuable in the world today. Even if you never leave your home town, you will encounter people from around the world in your workplace, neighborhood and schools. An increased understanding of other cultures helps you become an effective communicator with people from different backgrounds. We highly recommend that you consider studying abroad for a semester or a year. For information about study abroad programs at MTSU, contact the Director of Study Abroad, Ms. Rhonda Waller, Peck Hall 207, mtabroad@mtsu.edu
If you want to talk to one of our faculty members who has taught abroad, contact Dr. Linda Seward, Jones Hall 251, lseward@mtsu.edu (you can also check out her webpage which has lots of information about studying abroad)
