Marathon is a voluntary, in-depth study of the home building and residential development industry. Marathon is available to all LDHB concentration students. During Fall and Spring semesters, Marathon training is held one evening a week for approximately six weeks. Marathon courses are "coached" by local professionals in the home building and residential development industry. Currently leaders from national building companies such as Beazer Homes, Centex Homes, Drees Homes, Fox Ridge Homes/NVR, The Jones Company and Pulte Homes, as well as local building companies such as The Craig Co./Celebration Homes, McLean Construction and Regent Homes, are participating as Marathon coaches.
Topics covered during Marathon training include:

Students who choose to participate in the Marathon program are eligible for selection for the National Competition Team. Each year, six students are selected for this team which takes part in a national competition at the International Builders Show held each January in cities throughout the U.S. The team puts in about 200 hours of work devising an overall plan for a residential subdivision located somewhere in the U.S. The plan includes elements such as a market analysis, infrastructure layout, infrastructure and housing direct and indirect costs, building plans and a management approach for the project. MTSU has placed in the top ten 6 out of 9 years.

2007 team placed 1st in the national competition among 39universities.

2006 team placed 5th in the national competition among 42 universities.
