Middle Tennessee State University is the home of nearly 23,000 students and more than 800 faculty and staff. As a community, we work hard to create a safe and supportive environment for study, teaching, research, learning and recreation.
However, like any small town of a similar size, each year faculty and staff of the university face the need to address behavior issues that range from the mildly distressing to the clearly disruptive. Occasionally we worry that an encounter with a disruptive student may become threatening or dangerous.
This guide was designed to introduce faculty and staff to the web of support systems in place at MTSU to help you address these issues. Working together, we can share resources to best help members of our community to be successful, while also responding in a way that minimizes danger and disruption.
This guide includes a link to additional information and tools for working with distressed, disruptive or disturbing students. By taking some time to review this material, you will be better prepared to make good decisions about how to most effectively intervene.
