DSS assists the University in creating an accessible community where students with disabilities have an equal opportunity to fully participate in their educational experience at MTSU.
To provide and coordinate accommodations that provide students with disabilities an equal opportunity to maximize their learning potential.
By joining with faculty, administration & staff, we seek to guard the integrity of MTSU's programs and services, while at the same time, ensuring that students with disabilities receive the reasonable accommodations that give them an equal opportunity to meet individual program requirements.
We function as an advocate for students with disabilities, while at the same time encouraging and assisting students in the development of independence, responsibility and effective self-advocacy.
Disability information is strictly confidential and is not released without the consent of the student.
Two laws govern the rights of persons with disabilities: Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and The Americans with Disabilities Act (as amended, 2008). They prohibit discrimination against individuals with disabilities and require reasonable accommodations for those that request them.
