MTSU's Disabled Student Services department offers a wide variety of services to students with disabilities including testing accommodations, providing access to the latest in adaptive computer technologies, and acting as a liaison to University departments.
The Disabled Student Services office is located in room 120 of the Keathley University Center (KUC). Our regular office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. DSS assists the University in creating an accessible community where students with disabilities have an equal opportunity to fully participate in their educational experience at MTSU.

We function as an advocate for students with disabilities, while at the same time encouraging and assisting students in the development of independence, responsibility and effective self-advocacy.

Two laws govern the rights of persons with disabilities: Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and The Americans with Disabilities Act (as amended, 2008). They prohibit discrimination against individuals with disabilities and require reasonable accommodations for those that request them.
The Disabled Student Services Office provides a wide range of accommodations and services to students with disabilities at MTSU.
• Academic aides including note takers, readers, and scribes
• Access to auxiliary aids including recorded textbooks, tape recorders, and FM systems
• Recreational and social activities
• Adaptive technology, computer equipment including screen reading software, CCTV, and voice-recognition software
• Testing accommodations including, but not limited to, extended test time, reduced distraction environments, and adaptive testing technology
• Guidance, referral, and advocacy services
• Liaison services with rehabilitation agencies
