The Interaction of Child Reading Disability and Parent Stress
Masters Degree Thesis, August 2003
The current experiment was an investigation of how specific reading disabilities in children may contribute to stress in parents. Variables that caused stress, as well as variables that contributed to reading difficulties in children were measured. These variables were factors that are primarily the result of the students' home environment. These factors include: time spent reading with the child, socio-economic status, parenting stress, and opportunities for verbal interaction between the parent and the child. Parents were presented with four questionnaires, which gauged these variables. Controlling for each factor gave a specific picture of which factors specifically affected parent stress caused by reading difficulties in school children.
