MTSU's Department of Electronic Media Communication (EMC) converges communication skills, creativity, and new technologies as we teach students to navigate a world that has evolved beyond the traditional. We help students prepare for a constantly changing world as they develop skills in creative media production and learn to be savvy media consumers, as well.
The department's accomplished faculty, both professional and academic, focus on creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills as students learn to be better communicators and creators of media content.
We provide stimulating learning environments in which students get hands-on experience. We use our brand new HD mobile production lab to teach live event TV productions such as sporting events and concerts. In our multi-camera HD production studio students learn to create all kinds of video programs. Students also have learning opportunities through MTTV, our student television station; WMTS, our student radio station; and WMOT, our 100,000 watt PBS radio station. Our digital labs are equipped with state of the art software and hardware. Our Baldwin Photo Gallery exhibits the work of some of the world's greatest photographers. Internships with local and national employers provide real-world work experiences.
Our students have the opportunity to elevate their educations through the University's Honors College, experiential learning programs, and post-graduate study.
With our diverse set of concentrations, we teach how to create effective electronic media content and experiences across virtually every platform. Take a look at our programs and where the department's blend of creativity, technology, and theory can lead:
