A native of Egypt, Albakry is Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics in the English department. He has taught at MTSU since 2005 and is the current Director of Graduate Admissions for the English Department. His research and teaching interests are in the areas of corpus linguistics, discourse analysis, translation studies, and grammar and language pedagogy. A recipient of the Outstanding Teacher Award from MTSU Foundation in 2010, he was awarded a Fulbright fellowship to Morocco for 2012. Currently, he is completing an article-length study on Analyzing the Discourse of Immigration in Southern U.S. Newspapers and is developing a research project on language policy in North Africa.
