Dr. Donovan teaches courses in children's and adolescent literature and in American Literature.  She serves as one of the Directors of the Middle Tennessee Writing Project.  She co-edits Border States , the journal of the Kentucky-Tennessee American Studies Association, and she was the co-founder and co-director (with Drs. Hixon and Marchant) of the biennial Modern Critical Approaches to Children's Literature conference hosted by MTSU. Dr. Donovan's research currently focuses on how circuses are portrayed in 19th century children's literature.
