Dr. Donovan teaches courses in children's and adolescent literature. She co-edits Border States , the journal of the Kentucky-Tennessee American Studies Association, and she is the co-founder and co-director (with Drs. Hixon and Marchant) of the biennial Modern Critical Approaches to Children's Literature conference hosted by MTSU. Dr. Donovan is currently working on a project on how circuses are portrayed in 19 th century children's literature and the ways in which children's literature of the 1920s depicts immigrants and foreigners.
