Dr. Helford teaches courses in women's and gender studies, American film and popular culture, and contemporary literature and theory. Recent courses she has created and teaches on a regular basis include Jewish American Identity in Literature and Culture (ENGL 2020), Gender and Film (ENGL 3885), and Feminist Theory (ENGL 6/7500). She is former director of Women's Studies. Helford is currently writing a book on gender in the films of Hollywood studio director George Cukor. She is the editor of Fantasy Girls: Gender in the New Universe of Science Fiction and Fantasy Television and is on the Editorial Advisory Board for the Journal of Science Fiction Film and Television.
