Dr. Johnson teaches courses in postcolonial literature and critical theory, contemporary British literature, the African diaspora, contemporary diasporas in the US , and women's literature (particularly Black women's writings) among others. She has published and/or presented scholarly papers in these areas. She is former chair of the MTSU President's Commission on the Status of Women and is currently Director of Women's and Gender Studies.
