Teaching Online in the English Department
![]()
Faculty interested in teaching courses online in the English Department will find the required process detailed in the Department Policies (see links below).
This process is in place in our department (the only one on the MTSU campus) to assist our colleagues in moving courses online and to ensure the quality and rigor of those courses.
Faculty should feel free to contact members of the WebCom for more information if they have additional questions about the process: Maria Clayton, chair; Deborah Gentry; Jill Hague; Becky King; Bob Petersen; Tim Wilt; and graduate students, Kirsten Boatwright and JR Robles.
If you're interested in teaching a course online, begin by indicating your interest to the Department Chair and appropriate Division Head (Lower Division, Upper Division, Graduate) to determine Departmental needs for the course you intend to deliver online. After you receive their approval, you should contact the WebCom Chair through email or by completing the teaching online form to let us know of your plans. You will be assigned a Mentor/Evaluator and gain information about the rest of the process.
For an overview of the departmental process, see the Timeline for Faculty approval to Develop and Teach Online Courses.
Stay tuned for upcoming information and announcements about Department-wide discussion boards (DB's) through D2L for our many interest groups and repositories of useful resources shared by your colleagues. We are also planning a series of mini-workshops. More to follow.
