Clayton Eshleman to Visit MTSU
Clayton Eshleman, a distinguished poet, translator and editor, will (thanks to the Peck Fund) be our guest on March 3 and 4. Eshleman's poetry has been published by Black Sparrow Press since 1968. His latest volume, FROM SCRATCH, appeared last year.

Eshleman is also known for his superb translations of poets such as Vallejo, Cesaire and Artaud. As editor of the highly regarded journal of avant-garde poetry SULFUR, Eshleman has played a significant role in shaping the modern poetic tradition. With Gary Snyder and Anne Waldman, Eshleman has led trips to the caves of the French Dordogne and written about Prehistoric Cave Art. "No one knows the caves and the archaic regions of the soul in our time as does Clayton Eshleman," writes James Hillman. "He is a guide among the animal images of the primordial psyche."

Eshleman will read from his poetry at 4:00 p.m. on March 3 in the Hazlewood Dining Room of JUB. On March 4, 10:00 a.m., he will present a multi-media presentation on Antonin Artaud (likely also in Hazlewood). A reception, to which you are all invited, will be held at the home of Dr. Allen Hibbard following the poetry reading.
