Dr. Kathleen Yancey to Present Workshop

Dr. Kathleen Yancey, nationally recognized authority on writing portfolios and reflective writing and Pearce Professor of Professional Communication at Clemson University, will present a workshop for MTSU English faculty on March 17, 2000. Dr. Yancey will conduct two sessions: morning and afternoon. The workshop is sponsored by the Virginia Peck Trust Fund Committee.

Prof. Yancey earned her Ph.D. in English from Purdue University, and taught at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte before joining the faculty at Clemson.

The Clemson University Website describes Dr. Yancey as "one of the nation's leading authorities in the field of writing and rhetoric" and notes that "she has published Reflection in the Writing Classroom and has edited four other books on such topics as writing assessment, writing portfolios and voice. The founding co-editor of the journal Assessing Writing, she is also the author of nearly 30 book chapters and articles in refereed journals [and] has held leadership positions in several national organizations, including serving as chair of the College Composition and Communication Committee on Assessment, chair of the College Section of the National Council of Teachers of English and vice president of the Writing Program Administration.
