Set in contemporary Iran, A Separation is a compelling drama about the dissolution of marriage. Nader and Simin have been married for 14 years and Simin wants to leave Iran with her husband and daughter Termach. She sues for divorce when Nader refuses to leave behind his ailing father and soon returns to her parents. Nader hires a young woman to care for his father in his wife's absence, and he realizes that there is more on the line than just his marriage. A Separation infuses a great insight into modern Iran with a powerful insight into the human condition. This demonstrates the power and poetic potential of cinematic drama.
