Festival Dates: April 20 - 24, 2009
The MTSU Films Committee sponsors an annual Student Film Festival during a week in the spring. Student films that are entered in the festival are shown in the Keathley University Center Theatre during the festival week. The MTSU Student Film Festival is free and open to the public.
Guidelines For Film Festival Entries
Time Limit: The Films Committee has set a recommended time limit for each film of thirty (30) minutes. However, this is merely a recommendation. Films of any length will be considered.
Content: A panel of the committee’s choosing will preview all films. Films that the panel feels are not appropriate for the festival will be rejected. Nudity and violence will not be tolerated if shown in a way that the panel deems inappropriate. Submitters will be notified prior to the Festival of whether or not their films will be shown.
Format of Film: Films will be accepted in .avi or .mpg video format, playable on a PC. This video file can be submitted on a data DVD, portable hard drive or a jump drive. A backup DVD is required, playable on a standard DVD player (if possible please do not use menus). Hard drives and jump drives will be retured to submitter, however DVD's will not be returned. If your film is not in one of these formats, please contact Greg Feiling for instruction. (Contact information below.)
Submissions: If you wish to submit a film, please use the Submission Information Sheet, which is available in room 308 in the KUC. Please fill out all information on this sheet and submit it with your film by Friday April 3rd, 2009 at 4 PM CST. It is pertinent that you fill out the personal information section including your name, telephone number and email so that the committee can contact you prior to the Festival.
Who Can Submit: Any MTSU student in good standing with the University may submit a film. However, the student who submits the film must perform a substantial role in the production of the film [i.e. director, writer, cinematographer, et cetera].
Where to Submit: Films should be submitted to the Student Programming office in Keathley University Center [KUC] room 308 between the times of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
When to Submit: All submissions are due by Friday April 3rd, 2009 at 4 PM CST.

- Directing
- Editing
- Effects
- Script
- Story
- Overall
Judges may choose to critique based on other categories as well.
Festival Showings: The films will then be shown in the Festival Monday through Thursday during the week of festival. Submitters will be notified as to what day[s] their film will be shown so that they may speak 3-5 minutes to the audience about their film before it is shown. After the films are viewed by the audience, the submitter may field questions from the audience.
Awards Ceremony: An awards ceremony will take place on the final day of the Festival. MTSU Student Film Festival 2009 trophies will be presented to the top three participants. Other prizes will also be awarded to the first, second, and third place films.
Organizers: The MTSU Student Film Festival is brought to you by the Films Committee of MTSU.
