Dr. Don W. Morgan is a Professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance and Director of the Center for Physical Activity and Health in Youth at MTSU. Before arriving at MTSU, he was a faculty member at Arizona State University (ASU), the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNC-Greensboro), Washington State University, and Andrews University. Dr. Morgan received the Ph.D. degree in Exercise Science from ASU, an M.S. degree in Physical Education from The University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Northwestern University.
In his current position, Dr. Morgan teaches applied exercise physiology courses and conducts research focusing on the energy demands of locomotion and the relationship between physical activity and health across the lifespan. He is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine, the American Academy for Kinesiology and Physical Education, and the Research Consortium of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. In addition, he is the immediate past-president of the North American Society for Pediatric Exercise Medicine. Dr. Morgan is the recipient of a New Investigator Award from the American College of Sports Medicine and a Research Excellence Award from UNC-Greensboro. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the United States Olympic Committee, NIKE, AVIA Group International, and the North Carolina Institute of Nutrition.
Dr. Morgan also enjoys speaking to public groups about the importance of physical activity as a cornerstone of good health. In this role, he has spoken at churches and spiritual retreats throughout the United States and has developed a series of programs describing the relationship between physical activity and health that have been broadcast on the 3ABN television network.
