Dr. Jamila L. Dr. Jamila L. McWhirter serves as a presenter, clinican, guest conductor, and adjudicator throughout the United States.  Her music education research has been published in the Journal of Music Education and presented nationally on numerous occasions for the National Association for Music Education, Society for Music Teacher Education, and Music Teacher National Association.  Her book , " A Creative Duet:  Mentoring Success for Emerging Music Educators", published by Oxford University Press was released in May, 2017. She serves on the American Choral Directors Association Education and Communication Committee and National Association for Music Education Music Education Journal Advisory Committee.  She currently serves the Tennessee Music Education Association as the Society for Music Teacher Education/Research Chair and as the state chair for the Keep Singing Project.  She has held numerous past offices for the Tennessee Music Education Association, Missouri Music Education Association, and Missouri Choral Directors Association.  Dr. McWhirter has adjudicated for several national choral festivals including Festival of Choirs, Performing Arts Consultants, and Fiesta-Val Music.  Her choirs and voice students have been selected for many honors including national American Choral Directors Association conferences and state music education association conferences.  She is the founding director of the Murfreesboro Community Men's Chorus who most recently performed in Carnegie Hall in 2015 and Ryman Auditorium in 2016.  Dr. McWhirter is the founder of the Tennessee All-Collegiate Ensembles, CNAfME Fall Kick-Off, and TNSMTE Symposium.  She has been named numerous times to Who's Who in America, Who's Who Among American Women, Who's Who Among America's Teachers, Who's Who in American Education, and the National Chancellor's List.  She has been honored as one of the 100 Most Beautiful People of Murfreesboro by the African Methodist Episcopal Church.  She is in her 29th year of teaching and 13th year at MTSU.
