Biography

With 40 years of aviation industry experience and many advanced certifications, Mr. Hawkins teaches courses across the maintenance management and professional pilot curriculums. With 40 years of aviation industry experience and many advanced certifications, Mr. Hawkins teaches courses across the maintenance management and professional pilot curriculums. Mr. Hawkins is a U.S. Army veteran and served as a CH-47 Chinook Flight Engineer with 101st Airborne Divison.  His research interests include human factors, advanced technology powerplants, and the integration of innovative aircraft systems. His research has been published in Aerospace Medical Association Journal, Aviation Technical Education Journal, and the Collegiate Aviation Review. His MTSU committee service includes the Athletic Oversight and Institutional Review Board. He has served on the board of directors for the Aviation Technical Education Council and the International AMTSociety along with several Federal Aviation Administration advisory and management committees.  In 2006, Mr. Hawkins was the first Tennessean ever selected as the Federal Aviation Administration National Aviation Maintenance Technician of the Year. In 2008, he was the first educator and the youngest honoree inducted into the Tennessee Aviation Hall of Fame. In 2009, Mr. Hawkins was presented the College of Basic and Applied Sciences Excellence in Service Award.
