Dr. Mohammed Albakry is Professor of English and Applied Linguistics in the English Department and Affiliate Faculty in the Literacy Studies PhD Program at Middle Tennessee State University. His research often takes up the intersection between language and identity, discourse and society, and translation theory and practice. His publications include "Translation and the Intersection of Texts, Contexts, and Politics: Historical and Socio-Cultural Perspectives,"  "Tahrir Tales: Plays from the Egyptian Revolution," and over 20 refereed articles and book chapters that appeared in World Englishes, Educational Theory, and Text & Talk, among other venues. Dr. Albakry’s work has won support from various external grants and fellowships, including Fulbright, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), and the University of Connecticut's Humanities Institute, among others. A recipient of the Outstanding Teacher Award from MTSU Foundation, he has taught and lectured extensively at universities in North Africa and East Asia. He teaches a variety of linguistics, language education, and literacy instruction courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
