The Summer Institute is the face-to-face component of the HSC 6100 Teaching Personal Finance graduate course offered during the summer term at Middle Tennessee State University. The remaining portion of HSC 6100 will be taught on-line. HSC 6100 Teaching Personal Finance is currently funded by the Financial Education for College Access and Success (FECAS) grant through 2014. A major component of this grant is to provide personal finance middle and high school teachers with instructional materials and strategies related to the state mandated personal finance curriculum with added materials to assist with college access and success. Experienced and new teachers of personal finance are invited! Students will receive 3 FREE hours of graduate credit and an $850 stipend upon satisfactory completion of all course requirements as outlined in the course syllabus (to be provided on the first day of class, Summer Institute).
The Financial Education for College Access & Success (FECAS) grant seeks to prepare educators to help middle and high school students navigate personal finance decisions and goals, analyze opportunities related to the costs and benefits of postsecondary education, and develop a skill set for success in postsecondary education.
How to Register
If you are interested in attending next summer's institute, early registration for
the summer term begins April 1, 2013. Before you can register for the course, you
must first apply and be admitted to the College of Graduate Studies.
To apply, please visit MTSU's College of Graduate Studies website and follow the directions for a "non-degree seeking" student. If you have
NOT previously been admitted to the MTSU College of Graduate Studies, you must choose
the link "New Graduate Student Application" If you have been previously admitted to
MTSU, choose the "Online Re-Admission Form" link.
