General Overview of Important Dates

Federal/State

• The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be completed each year. The priority date to apply for federal financial aid is March 1. Completing the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1 is strongly encouraged.
  
• Funding for the Federal Pell Grant and the Federal Student Loan Programs are not impacted by the priority date.
  
• Due to limited funding for campus-based programs (e.g., Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant, Federal Work Study, and Perkins Loan), awards are given until funds are depleted.
  
• The Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC) awards the state grant on a first-come, first-served basis (awards are given until funds are depleted). Completing the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1 is strongly encouraged.
  

Scholarships

• Currently Enrolled Student Scholarships: Complete online scholarship application by December 15. http://www.mtsu.edu/scholarships/current.php
  
• First-Time Freshmen Academic Scholarships: Apply for admission, submit official ACT or SAT test scores, and submit an official sixth-semester high school transcript (through the end of the junior year) by December 1. http://www.mtsu.edu/scholarships/freshman.php
  
  For Buchanan Fellowships, submit a Buchanan Scholarship Application to the Honors College by December 1. http://www.mtsu.edu/honors/scholarships.php
  
• Transfer Student Scholarships: Apply for admission by February 1. http://www.mtsu.edu/scholarships/transfer.php
  
• Foundation Scholarships: For scholarship application and deadline information visit www.mtsu.edu/scholarships . Deadlines range from December to April.
  
• Dream Scholarships: Complete online scholarship application by February 15. http://www.mtsu.edu/scholarships/dream_scholarships.php
  
• Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship Program (TELS): The FAFSA must be processed by September 1 for students enrolling in the Fall semester or by February 1 for students enrolling in the Spring or Summer term.
