Three steps to apply for a PLUS Loan:
Step 1: The results from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be on file in the Financial Aid Office. If you have not completed the FAFSA, you may apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Step 2: Determine if the parent is eligible for a PLUS loan. Submit a PLUS loan request sheet to the Financial Aid Office. The Financial Aid Office will initiate a credit check with the Federal Direct loan program.
Step 3: If the PLUS loan is approved, the parent must have a signed promissory note with the
Federal Direct loan program. Click https://dlenote.ed.gov/empn/completenew_plus.jsp to sign a promissory note. It is the parent's responsibility to contact the government to determine if they have a valid PLUS promissory note on file.
If the PLUS loan is denied, the student may apply for additional Unsubsidized loan
funds. To apply, the student must complete a Loan Request Sheet (LRS) which can be found
by clicking here
(Based upon the student's eligibility, MTSU will certify up to the loan amount requested
by the parent. The loan may be certified for less than the parent requests.)
