Non-Independent Institutions - Institutions that have a general consortium agreement with MTSU, e.g., KIIS, CCSA, ISEP, etc.
For students interested in participating in a study abroad program with non-independent institutions:
Obtain information about the various Study Abroad Programs, destinations, costs, etc., by contacting the Office of Education Abroad and Student Exchange (EA&SE). For information, call (615) 898-5179, or go to www.mtsu.edu/~mtabroad.
Typically, the financial aid process is the same for study abroad participants as for those students who remain on campus. For information, choose the "Applying for Aid" option on the Financial Aid Web site at www.mtsu.edu/financialaid.
Independent Institutions - Institutions that do not have a general consortium agreement with MTSU.
For students interested in participating in a study abroad program with independent institutions:
Obtain information about the various Study Abroad Programs, destinations, costs, etc., by contacting the Office of EA&SE.
NOTE: Financial aid recipients must complete an individual consortium agreement to study abroad through an independent institution.
Students enrolling in independent institution programs are required to complete an individual Study Abroad Consortium Agreement if they request financial aid funds. To determine aid eligibility, students should meet with Judith Fogus in the Financial Aid Office, Cope Administration Building, Room 218. To schedule an appointment, please call (615) 898-2247. NOTE: Students must be approved by the Office of EA&SE as a study abroad participant before making an appointment.
If eligible for aid, students must contact the Office of EA&SE to initiate an individual consortium agreement. When the appropriate information, signatures, and copies have been obtained, the Office of EA&SE will send the consortium agreement to the Financial Aid Office for processing aid. Because original signatures are required, a minimum of 4-6 weeks must be allowed for processing the paperwork. Requests for aid may be denied if sufficient time is not allowed to process a consortium agreement.
