Dentition Project

A university student is currently conducting research regarding the effects oral devices have upon the hard and soft tissues of the mouth. These devices may include, but are not limited to, bridges and partials, dentures, orthodontic retainers, oral and labial piercings, or any other fixed or removable oral device. This information will be studied to identify any temporary or permanent effects such appliances have upon an individual's teeth and surrounding tissues. The study is aimed at providing additional information which may be used in the identification of human remains in police investigations that may require the use of dental records.  The results of this study are intended for presentation and possible publication through the American Academy of Forensic Science.
