Portuguese - General Information

There are no major or minor study in Portuguese. Portuguese courses are designed to meet the needs of Latin American Studies minors and any student interested in learning a foreign language. The general objective of Portuguese courses is to help students develop proficiency in the four language skills: speaking, reading, listening, and writing. Students who attend class regularly, prepare all lessons carefully before class, and participate actively in class will be able to understand most native Portuguese speakers. In addition to that, they will be able to speak in the present, past and future tenses about family, friends, life events, traveling, and life in Portuguese speaking countries, easily read most newspapers or magazines, write letters, and short compositions.
