To all Graduate Students, Faculty and Staff,
As you are all probably aware, the Tennessee Board of Regents has changed the fee structure effective Fall 2009. This change removes the full time tuition cap and incorporates a limited-time reduced per credit hour charge for hours above full-time status as this new fee structure is being phased in. A recent unexpected change is that tuition will be charged based upon the student level rather than course level. This means that a graduate level student enrolled in undergraduate courses will be charged at the graduate tuition rate for all courses.
To assist students in managing this transition to the new fee structure, for two semesters only (Fall 2009 and Spring 2010), MTSU will adjust student fees to credit your account for the difference between the graduate and undergraduate fees. This will offset the effect of the potential increase in fees and provide students with sufficient notice to budget accordingly for future terms. See the bullet points below for more details and an example of this new fee structure.
- For any student admitted at the graduate level your bill will display graduate tuition charges for all registered courses regardless of course level.
- In order for your bill to reflect an offset of the new increase in charges, the University will apply a credit to your student account during the week of September 7th. If you drop/add a course after September 6th, a manual fee adjustment may be made to your account.
- A basic example would be for an in-state graduate student, registered in one graduate level course (3hrs) and one undergraduate level course (3hrs), their bill will reflect tuition and fee charges of $2202. During the week of September 7th, a $351 adjustment will be applied to your student account. If you need to make a payment and your bill does not reflect the proper adjustment, you will need to contact Natalie Hill (615-898-5140 or bursarmt@mtsu.edu) for assistance. You must pay the balance of your account, after the adjustment, prior to August 25th or your courses will be dropped.
If you are enrolled in only graduate courses, confirm your classes and pay your bill in the customary manner. Please remember that the fee payment deadline is August 25th.
This information as well as any additional updates can be found at www.mtsu.edu/graduate.
