Middle Tennessee State University, in conjunction with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, is offering the Master of Science in Professional Science degree program. The MS-PS is a new type of two-year degree in the sciences and mathematics that equips people for work in public and private business enterprises (or corporate America) and in academia. The goal for this degree is to enhance the interface between science and business by providing strong degrees which emphasize expertise in both of these areas.
The Masters of Science in Professional Science combines the business management skills commonly found in the traditional MBA type program with advanced learning in specific science fields. The Professional Science Masters (as it is commonly called) includes a business core with specific concentrations in the areas of biotechnology, biostatistics, and health care informatics.
The Master of Science in Professional Science is designed for people interested in mathematics, sciences, health related sciences, or business with some related job experiences or undergraduate education.
Reports from the Department of Labor indicate an increasing demand for individuals with master's level training with a specialty in science. MTSU's program provides advanced training in the sciences of biotechnology, biostatistics, or health care informatics along with enhanced professional business development. This combination of science and business training will assist individuals in the middle Tennessee area to meet current and future employment needs and to develop new workforce opportunities.
The Master of Science in Professional Science program includes advanced disciplinary science training and interdisciplinary connections through the fusion of science in a manner that meets the needs of businesses. Also through the integration of natural sciences and mathematics with training in accounting, law, management, leadership, and communication techniques.
