Schedule of Events

Line up in designated rooms, Murphy Athletic Center. No rehearsal prior to ceremony.
8:30 a.m.
Graduation directions will be given by Heralds. Candidates NOT in line by 8:30 a.m. will not be allowed to participate.
9:00 a.m.
Graduation ceremony begins.





Important Graduation Information

  • The ceremony for graduate students will begin at 9:00 a.m.
  • Guest tickets are not required for graduation
  • Diplomas will be mailed on May 20, 2010
  • If preferred, diplomas may be picked up in person between 8:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on May 14, and May 17-19, 2010 at the Records Office window next to Room 106 of the Cope Administration Building


Intent to Graduate Forms

Intent to Graduate forms must be received in the College of Graduate Studies on or before the dates listed above to in order for checkout procedures to be completed. Intents received after this date will be processed, but diplomas may be delayed and names may not appear in the commencement program.


Attendance at Graduation Ceremony

Graduation ceremonies last approximately two hours. In respectful consideration for all graduating students, the university requests that family, friends, and graduates stay for the entire ceremony. If you are planning celebration activities, please be aware of this time commitment. Also, the use of cell phones during the ceremony is discouraged. Use of air horns or other such devices by students or guests are prohibited and will be confiscated if brought into Murphy Center.

Any degree candidate requiring special facilities at convocation due to a physical disability should call the Records Office, (615) 858-2600, by April 19, 2010. Questions concerning parking or other special facilities for family members or guests should be directed to Murphy Center 615-898-2752. (Parking Map for MTSU)

Candidates enter on one of the North entrances to the ground floor of Murphy Center where a "Line of March" notification will be posted. This "Line of March" document may be accessed TWO days prior to the graduation ceremony on the MTSU Records Office website.

Arrangements have been made by the Office of News and Public Affairs to have a professional photographer take a picture of each graduate as they walk across the stage. A small color proof and ordering information will be mailed within one week at no charge or obligation to you. If you have not received your proof within 10 business days please contact GradTrak customer service at 800-261-2576.

A dressing room will be provided for personal belongings during graduation. MTSU is not responsible for valuables in the event of loss or theft.

Make arrangements to meet family and guest outside of on the track level of Murphy Center after graduation has ended. NO ONE OTHER THAN DEGREE CANDIDATES WILL BE ALLOWED ON THE LOWER CONCORSES OF MURPHY CENTER.

If you do not plan to attend your graduation ceremonies, please notify the Records Office by Monday, April 19, 2010, that your degree is to be conferred in absentia. Your written request should be submitted to: Records Office, Middle Tennessee State University, 102 Cope Administration Building, Murfreesboro, TN 37132. You may also complete and submit the online absentia form or email Fay Wilson.

Diplomas will be mailed on May 20, 2010.


Cap and Gown Information

The cost of your cap and gown is included in the campus access fee paid at the time of registration and is ordered through the Phillips Bookstore on campus. There is no additional charge. Order your cap and gown at least two months prior to the graduation date by clicking here. Graduation regalia will be available at the Phillips Bookstore in the Keathley University Center May 2-6, 2010 from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on May 7, 2010 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Regalia will not be available at the Phillips Bookstore on graduation day, but replacement regalia will be available at Murphy Center. Graduates should make arrangements to pick your regalia during these date and times as regalia will not be mailed or shipped. If you participate in the graduation ceremony, you must wear regalia. Graduates inappropriately dressed will not be allowed to march. People under the influence or alcohol are subject to being removed from the line of march.

Diplomas

Diplomas will be mailed to the address you listed on your Intent to Graduate form. If your address or name has changed since you submitted this form you must contact Fay Wilson in the Records Office at 615-898-5170 and provide your new information. Notice of address changes must be received by April 19, 2010. There is a $10 charge to change your name on your diploma once they have been ordered.

Pursuant to Chapter 654 of the Public Acts of 1976, all financial obligations to a state institution of higher learning (parking tickets, telephone charges, library fines, etc.) must be satisfied before a diploma will be issued. All fines and/or debts owed to MTSU should be satisfied through the MTSU Business Office, Cope Administration Building by May 7, 2010.

A replacement diploma may be obtained by submitting a Request for Replacement Diploma form and replacement fee.
