Scholarship Information
There are several scholarships for graduate students available through the College
of Graduate Studies. Below you will find information and guidelines for each scholarship.

Foundation Graduate Student Scholarship
Application Deadline - July 1st of each year
The Foundation Graduate Student Scholarship is awarded annually to one student. Recipients
receive scholarship dollars for the fall semester. In order to renew the scholarship
for the spring semester the recipient must achieve at minimum a 3.0 GPA in the preceding
semester. Listed below are the eligibility requirements:
- Must have an undergraduate degree from Middle Tennessee State University
- Must have an overall undergraduate grade point average of 3.0
- Must have a minimum GRE score of 900 or a minimum GMAT score of 500
- Must be fully admitted as degree seeking student, registered for nine (9) graduate
credit hours
Samuel H. Howard MBA Scholarship
Application Deadline - May 30th of each year
Two MBA Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each will be awarded each fall and spring
semester. Eligibility requirements are:
- Applicant must be an African American graduate student pursuing the MBA degree
- Funds may be used to provide financial assistance or to students participating in
the National Black MBA Association, particularly attending annual conventions
- Applicant must provide three letters of reference
- Applicant must provide a statement of financial need
- Applicant must provide a brief personal narrative
Tammy Jones Memorial Scholarship
Application Deadline - June 1st of each year
The Tammy Jones Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduate student majoring
in math or vocal music at Middle Tennessee State University. Scholarship is renewable
fro a maximum of one year pending re-application.
- The number of and amount of the scholarship to be awarded shall be determined by the
Graduate Studies Scholarship Committee and shall be limited to the funds available
in the spendable account and consistent with scholarship award guidelines. Each recipient
shall be selected by the Graduate Studies Scholarship Committee. The amount of each
scholarship shall be disbursed at regular intervals during the school year in accordance
with normal university policies.
- To be eligible for consideration for the scholarship, a student shall be a senior
or graduate student majoring in math or vocal music at MTSU.
- This scholarship may be renewed for a maximum or one year. Prior recipients must re-apply
for consideration.
Mary W. and Chester R. Martin Graduate Academic Scholarship
Application Deadline - May 30th of each year
The Martin Scholarship, in the amount of $500 will be awarded each fall and spring
semesters as a tuition grant. Eligibility requirements are:
- Applicant must be a Tennessee or Kentucky resident;
- Applicant must have graduated from an accredited, undergraduate institution with a
minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA);
- Applicant must be a newly admitted student;
- Applicant must be enrolled for nine hours of preferable graduate coursework;applicant
must provide three letters of reference;
- Scholarship is awarded for one semester only and is non-renewable.
Albert L. and Ethel Carver Smith Scholarship for Graduate Students
Application Deadline - June 30th of each year
Applications for the Albert L. and Ethel Carver Smith Scholarship for Graduate Students
are accepted for the fall and spring semesters. The amount of the award is $1,000
for the first semester and is renewable for one additional semester contingent on
satisfactory academic progress. The scholarship committee will evaluate each application
for scholarly merit and financial need. Requirements are:
- Applicant must be admitted to a graduate program;
- Applicant must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student;
- Applicant must provide a financial need statement with the application and a brief
narrative supporting the application.
