Sigma Chi was founded on June 28, 1855 at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, as a literary society by seven men, aged 14 to 25. The Fraternity's primary purpose, they believed, was to appreciate, develop and promote the core values of friendship, justice and learning.
Today, Sigma Chi is the largest and one of the oldest national fraternities, with currently 244 active chapters, over 100 alumni chapters, and over 300,000 total initiates. We are an international organization with active chapters in the U.S. and Canada and alumni chapters around the world. Sigma Chi proudly boasts lifelong commitment and unbreakable bonds of reciprocal friendship; you'll never hear someone say, "I was a Sigma Chi," it is always "I am a Sigma Chi." Our mission is to develop values-based leaders committed to the betterment of character, campus and community. Sigma Chi's vision is to become the preeminent collegiate leadership development organization in America—aligned, focused and living our core values.
Sigma Chi has more famous alumni than nearly all other fraternities combined. Gentlemen such as two-time Utah governor & Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman Jr., New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, country musician Luke Bryan, talk-show host David Letterman, Tennessee governor Bill Haslam, and actors Brad Pitt and John Wayne have taken part in the same Ritual that you will have the opportunity to participate in. With a fundamental purpose of cultivation, maintenance, and accomplishment of our core values of friendship, justice, and learning, Sigma Chi will certainly be the place for you to gain the most from your college experience. You will learn invaluable leadership, organizational, and communication skills, not to mention gaining friends and brothers that will be with you for the rest of your life.

Sigma Chi Golf Tournament 2011
Formally chartered at MTSU as the Eta Gamma chapter on April 1st, 1970, Sigma Chi has been leaving a legacy of strength and leadership in the Greek Community for over 40 years. Since January 11, 2000, we’ve been proud to reside at one of the nicest fraternity houses around, the Sigma Chi House, Building No. 5 on MTSU’s very own Greek Row. As a chapter, we strive for involvement and academic accomplishment on campus. We have brothers leading in campus organizations ranging from Student Government to Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society to the IFC Executive Committee. Our yearly philanthropic competition benefiting the Children’s Miracle Network, Derby Days, is always an enormous success and attracts sororities from all over campus to compete and help us raise money for a worthy cause. And finally, you can always find us in the Grove during game day tailgating - supporting MTSU and our very own Blue Raiders!
Ultimately, the gentlemen of Sigma Chi believe that what sets us apart from and above other fraternities is this – a brotherhood based in values so true and so strong as to create the very best in collegiate excellence, fraternal fun, and fast friendship. To quote our Creed, “I say these words in all sincerity: that Sigma Chi has given me favor and distinction, that the bond of our fellowship is reciprocal, and that I will endeavor to so build myself and so conduct myself that I will ever be a credit to our Fraternity.” It is with this spirit that we hope that you will join us for the best time of your life. And if you seek that same spirit of excellence and for which we strive, then to put it simply, “...You’ll Find It Here!”
