Kinesmetrics Measurement and Statistical Consulting
Measurement issues in the disciplines in the Health and Human Performance Department are complex, and it is important to apply fundamental measurement theory and appropriate statistical analyses to projects. Since fall 2009, Dr. Minsoo Kang has worked with Ph.D. students in the Kinesmetrics Lab to extend a measurement and statistical consulting service to all members of the department. Lab personnel offer the consulting service on student and faculty research projects and also in the form of educational tutoring. The purpose of this service is to assist students and faculty by ensuring sound measurement, design, and statistical analysis to their projects; provide valuable resources to collaborative projects and grant applications; and provide opportunities for kinesmetrics doctoral students to learn about the process of consulting.
The Kinesmetrics Lab also provides an annual summer statistics workshop for students and faculty in the HHP Department. Information about the workshop will be updated during the spring semester. Stay tuned for the updates.
Research-based consulting on health and human performance research projects includes
- research design options
- formulation of hypotheses
- measurement options and issues
- data collection, organization, and cleaning
- statistical analysis and computing
- interpretation of findings
- report writing/grant proposals
Non-project-based consulting is offered in the form of educational tutoring. In this context, no research project is required. A student or faculty member who wishes to gain more knowledge or experience in any of the above concepts is welcomed for this service.
Eligibility - All students, GTAs, faculty, and staff of the Health and Human Performance department are eligible to use the consulting services. Graduate students working on theses or dissertations are encouraged to use the services but should obtain approval from their advisors first.
