Departmental Scholarships
James N. Leonard History Scholarship

Named in honor of Dr. James N. Leonard to honor his passion for "fostering better
racial understanding."
To be eligible for consideration for this scholarship, a student must
- be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in History at MTSU
- There will be a preference for minority students when awarding this scholarship.
- Each scholarship is for one academic year. Prior recipients are not disqualified from
consideration for this scholarship during subsequent years.
To apply, a student should
- submit a statement (no more than 500 words) explaining why they should be considered
for this scholarship
- The committee will also accept letters of recommendation from History faculty in support
of student applications, but these are not required.
- submit all materials to history.scholarships@mtsu.edu no later than the last Wednesday of February.
The Scholarship Committee expects to make 1-2 awards of $1,000 this year
James E. Taylor Scholarship
To be eligible for consideration for this scholarship, a student must
- be a citizen and resident of Rutherford County, Tennessee
- have financial need
- Preference will be given to a History major with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher,
though past academic performance will not be the exclusive factor in awarding this
scholarship
To apply, a student should submit
- submit a statement (no more than 500 words) explaining why they should be considered
for this scholarship
- The committee will also accept letters of recommendation from History faculty in support
of student applications, but these are not required.
