Conference room rate is $90 for a single room with one king or two double beds. There are a imited number of rooms available. Rooms must be reserved by September 15, 2013 to get this rate. When making your reservation, state that you are with the “MTSU Holocaust Studies Conference.”
Website for the Murfreesboro DoubleTree: http://doubletree3.hilton.com/en/hotels/tennessee/doubletree-by-hilton-hotel-murfreesboro-MBTDTDT/index.html.
While the conference does not provide a room-sharing service, we plan tocompile and distribute a list of interested individuals. To be included, email Assistant Conference Chair Cathy Crabtree at firstname.lastname@example.org by August 15, 2013 with your name, email address, gender, and the dates you plan to stay overnight at the conference hotel. Put "Room Sharing" in the subject line. On August 20, the full list will be emailed all who have signed up. Participants will then need to contact one another to make plans and to book rooms. We will not match people up or book rooms for participants.
LOCAL TRANSPORTATION (FROM THE HOTEL TO THE CONFERENCE)
We furnish a shuttle service between the conference hotel and the main conference building on the MTSU campus twice a day—in the morning before the conference begins and a return trip at the end of each day’s programming. We provide NO shuttle transportation during the day. The full shuttle schedule will be available at the conference hotel.
If you do not have a car and need to return to the hotel at other times, you will need to use a taxi. Several taxi companies service Murfreesboro, including: City Cab 615-895-3318, Checker Cab 615-893-8118, and Yellow Cab (615) 893-4024.
AIRLINE TRANSPORTATION TO MURFREESBORO
Murfreesboro, TN is approximately 28 miles SE of Nashville. Make plane reservations for Nashville International Airport. To get to Murfreesboro from the airport, you will need to rent a car, take an airport cab, or call Key Transport, with whom we have negotiated a special rate. (See GROUND TRANSPORTATION, immediately below.)
Key Transport uses vans and has given us a special conference price of $75 round trip or $40 one way. Be sure to state that you are with the MTSU Holocaust Studies Conference at the time you make your reservation to get this substantially reduced rate. (Please remember when considering the tip you wish to give your driver, that the same driver who picks you up at the airport might not be the driver who takes you back.) For additional information:
Phone: 855-585-0353 or 615-217-7433
Key Transport picks up passengers at the Information Desk on the baggage claim level at the Nashville Airport, and can take you to the conference hotel or directly to the conference. When your plane arrives, go to the information desk and, if the driver is not waiting for you, ask the information clerk when you can expect your driver. Key does check the arrival times of your plane, but it would be a good idea to phone ahead for delayed flights.
DRIVING TO MURFREESBORO AND CONFERENCE PARKING PERMITS
If you plan to drive to Murfreesboro and/or the conference site at MTSU, you will find a place on the registration form to request a parking permit. For handicapped permits, you will need a permanent handicapped license plate or your own handicapped hangtag that must be displayed along with the general MTSU parking permit.
A map and driving directions to the university are available online at http://www.mtsu.edu/maps.php.
CONFERENCE MEALS (INCLUDED IN REGISTRATION FEE)
Lunches, served Wednesday-Friday, are buffet style, and feature a full meal, including two entrées (one vegetarian [not vegan] and one meat [not pork or shellfish]), vegetables, salad, drinks, rolls, and dessert. Kosher meals may be ordered via the registration form. No meals are served on Tuesday. MTSU faculty, staff, and students (for whom the conference registration fee is waived) must pay for lunch (use Registration Form 1).
Wednesday-Friday, there will be a light breakfast to registered conference participants. Iced water is available throughout the conference.
Wednesday Evening Informal Gathering
A light evening meal will be provided at an informal conference gathering in a private home. Transportation will be provided from MTSU at the end of the conference day to and back to the hotel after the event. More information will be available at the registration desk on Wednesday.
Conference participants who would like to sell their book(s) at the conference must communicate directly with MTSU’s Phillips Bookstore. Upon request, the bookstore will order your books and sell them at the conference. MTSU cannot sell books brought by presenters themselves.
To place a request, email Phillips Bookstore Manager Jeff Whitwell at email@example.com. Provide the book’s full title, edition (as relevant), names of all authors or editors, publisher, publication date, and ISBN number. Requests made after September 16 may not be honored, depending on availability and ease of delivery in time for the conference.
Those who bring copies of their books to the conference to sell personally must be entirely responsible for them (including set-up, sales, and storage). Send requests to Associate Conference Chair Connie Huddleston at firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve space at a table in the conference building foyer. Remember: we have NO storage space for books, nor can we sell or be otherwise responsible for your books at any time before, during, or after the conference.
