Welcome to the Honors College Open House information page. We are glad that you are
thinking of spending the day with us on Monday, February 18, 2013.
The Honors College fosters the academic excellence and nurturing environment of a
small, select, private, liberal arts college within the setting of a major university.
The free exchange of ideas and the opportunity to learn from one another in small
classes taught by expert faculty make the Honors College experience rich and meaningful.
The schedule outlined below provides a mixture of information about MTSU, educational
events, and fun activities for the day. Once registered, you should receive an email
with detailed driving and parking instructions. PARKING WILL BE IN THE RUTHERFORD BLVD LOT (NOT BESIDE THE HONORS COLLEGE OR STUDENT
UNION BUILDING).
If you are bringing a group larger than five, please email Laura.Clippard@mtsu.edu. Otherwise, please click here to register www.mtsu.edu/rsvp.

pre-law majors but has included students in other fields like aerospace, English,

majors and non-science majors are encouraged to join in on the fun.

2:45 PM — AEROSPACE ATC LAB TOUR The 3.4 million-dollar air traffic control simulator lab was installed in Summer 2010.
The simulator exceeds the technical capabilities of the ATC simulator at NASA Ames
Research Center in California, and provides support in air traffic management systems,
human-factor research, technology assessment and large-scale demonstrations for the
aerospace industry. In both classes and laboratory training, students gain practical
experience in the three-phase air traffic control simulators, which resemble ATC facilities
in a variety of major airports, including Nashville, Memphis, Oklahoma City, and Atlanta.
The tower lab is a seamless 360-degree fiberglass screen that rises to nine feet with
a diameter of 29 feet. The tower simulator really gives the feeling of what it's like
to actually be in a real-world tower and to be able to see in every direction. Visitors
can see the planes landing on the runways. The simulator is the only one of its kind
in the world. It can simulate any kind of weather, rain or snow, for training.

of Mass Communication. MTSU uses this truck to teach students how to cover live events
such as sports and concerts. Many of MTSU's sporting events are broadcast live on
ESPN3. All the work in these broadcasts is done by MTSU students. The events are also
broadcast on MTTV, the University's student-run cable channel which can be seen on
Comcast cable channel 10 throughout Rutherford County. This truck is believed to be
the most advanced mobile production lab independently run by any university in the
United States.
