Admissions
What is the TOEFL test, and who is required to take if for admission to MTSU?
The TOEFL (pronounced TOE-full) is the Test of English as a Foreign Language. The test measures proficiency with written and spoken English only; it does not measure content knowledge for specific academic subject areas. All non-U.S. citizens are required to submit TOEFL scores unless they:
- are a citizen of Australia, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Jamaica, New Zealand, Bermuda, Trinidad and Tobago, or Canada (excluding Quebec).
- have a bachelor's or master's degree from a US institution.
In lieu of the TOEFL, you may submit an official report from ELS, EIKEN, IELTS, or UMELI. See the International Admissions website for more details.

Housing
What are my housing options?
-
On Campus Housing
Students planning to attend MTSU may want to live on campus. To do so, you must first submit a Housing application. This is a separate process from applying for admission to the university.
- On Campus Guest Housing
The university has a limited number of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments available to visiting professors and guests of the university. These apartments are typically used on a short-term basis. In some instances they are rented for an academic school year. For more information or to check on availability, please email Joyce Vaughn in the Housing office.
- Off Campus Housing
This website has a database to search for apartments close to campus. You can also use the message board to find a roommate, buy or sell furnishings, find someone to carpool to campus, and more.
