Name: Dr. Ronald D. Paige
Audience Level: all
Audience: General
Length: 50-60 minutes
Abstract:
We sit at the cusp of a decision-making period where colleges and high schools alike are evaluating the cost efficiencies and learning effectiveness of multi-way digital content delivery. Do we sit by as regional educational institutions go their technologically independent ways, or agree to share resources through common technologies? Spearheading just such an initiative, the presenter will share his experiences by moderating a panel-style discussion as though participants were creating their own regional digital consortium.
Description:
We sit at the cusp of a decision-making period where colleges and high schools alike are carefully evaluating the cost efficiencies and learning effectiveness of multi-way audio-video digital content delivery. Do we sit by and watch regional educational institutions go their technologically independent ways, or do we group together and agree to utilize and even share common technologies? What are the possible outcomes if multiple colleges and their respective service area high schools agree to work together to provide as-needed, on-demand, and just-in-time instruction to high school and college students alike using a common virtual instructional environment? How should we access the respective resources, needs, strengths, and weakness of each contributing institution? What are the ramifications for “business as usual” at consortium schools often used to competing rather than collaborating? What are the ramifications for “business as usual” among faculty not used to competing on the basis of outcome assessment? Spearheading just such an initiative, the presenter will share his experiences by moderating a panel-style discussion as though participants were creating their own consortium.
