Audience: This session is intended as a workshop and is for intermediate and advanced network technology users. Basic users will be able to gain basic functionality in Second Life and can continue training using the additional materials provided.

Get a life! A Second Life. Massive multiplayer online
gaming environments are being explored for use in online and
traditional classrooms as a new way to engage students in the
process of learning.
In this session, the participant will be exposed to theoretical as well as technical concepts for teaching online or enhancing a face to face course in Second Life.

gaming environments are being explored for use in online and
traditional classrooms as a new way to engage students in the
process of learning.
In this session, the participant will be exposed to theoretical as well as technical concepts for teaching online or enhancing a face to face course in Second Life.
The participant will be given technical training on how to establish an account, buy land or apply for educational land, obtain pre-fabricated classrooms, and import content into whiteboards or quiz boards.
Second Life community rules, terminology, economy, and development will be covered in context throughout the training.
Participants will learn to create Notecards to place assignments or embedded URL's for students in Second Life.
Participants will learn to integrate a Second Life component with their learning management system or face to face classroom.
Other practical skills include the use of basic Second Life tools such as voice IP, chat, search, map, fly, and object creation.
Participants will be given information concerning rules for research and costs involved in using Second Life actively as a virtual 3-D teaching and learning environment.
A getting started CD will be given to all session participants that will include essential links, manuals, and tutorials for getting started in Second Life.
