Name: Hans Gray, Rebecca Reese, Jenelle Ouimette

Audience: Faculty and instructional technology specialists

Abstract: Adobe Captivate is an excellent tool for creating eLearning content that can be delivered by way of a CD or learning management system. Through a simple point-and-click interface, you can create software demonstrations, software simulations, and software assessments. Captivate allows the inclusion of graphics, animations, video, and audio. It is also an excellent tool for creating self-grading exams or surveys. Exam question types include multiple choice, true/false, matching, fill-in-the-blank, and short answer.

Description: (Note: If the Captivate software is not installed on the computers, it will be necessary to take part of the workshop time to download the free 30 day trial. The participants will need to do this using their own email address.)

During this workshop, you will learn the basics of how to create projects in Adobe Captivate. Captivate is an excellent tool for creating eLearning content that can be delivered by way of a CD or a learning management system.

To begin, you will preview a demonstration of each of the projects that you will record to see exactly what you will be creating. First, you will record a software demonstration using Captivate. The demonstration will show a learner how to create a new folder on the desktop. Next, you will record an assessment simulation which will measure the learner's ability to create a new folder on the desktop. While these recordings are relatively short, they illustrate the basic capabilities of the Captivate program.

Next, you will create a self-grading quiz containing a multiple choice question, a true and false question, and a matching question. In this segment, you will be directed on how to edit the quiz preferences. Next, you will add a background color to all of the quiz slides. Then you will add a graphic to the title slide, some animated text, and a navigational button that will take you to the quiz section.

Finally, you will be shown how to add blank slides to the project and rearrange the order of the slides. You also will learn to add text to the title and closing slide and manipulate that text.
