Instructional Technology Conference 2009
Title: Train in Vain? The EduPunk Movement
Name: Bryan M. Booth & James Dye
Audience: All
Audience Level: All
Length: 1 Hour
Abstract: While course management systems have historically provided a very useful set of tools in one centralized instance, they have also become rigid and proprietary. As long as ANGELs have no Blackboards on which to write, many educators are restricted from the types of collaborative content development that have helped grow distance education. However, this is about to change for those brave enough to embrace a new, divergent flavor of communication.
With the emergence of Web 2.0 technologies, most of the tools provided by traditional content management systems have been replicated in a free and open environment. How can we as educators harness these new online applications to reach our students wherever they may be? Will the rapid growth of mobile platforms allow truly decentralized learning to occur anywhere a wireless signal is present?
