What is a women's center?
A women's center is an organization that contributes to the social, cultural, and intellectual development of all students, and that strives to create a safer environment through preventative education. It's a place that creates opportunities for discussion and understanding on gender issues and a place to receive support, ask questions and simply talk. The goal of the JAWC is to make a place on campus for women to come together to celebrate their womanhood and to support one another in the adventure of higher learning and the larger calling to the business of earning a living in a better way.

What is the difference between the Women's Center and Women's Studies?
The JAWC provides services that can benefit the whole person. The JAWC does not offer classes, although we do offer workshops, a speaker's service and a weekly program called Gender Circles. The JAWC is a center that includes a place to sit and read, study, visit or relax.

Women's Studies is basically an academic center. There are many classes that are offered by the program and a student can earn a minor that compliments their major. Women's Studies also hosts Women's Leadership Conference biennially which the JAWC helps sponsor.

Is there an organization or club for women on campus?
Yes. There are many. Women in Action, formerly known as Women for Women, is a student organization that supports education, advocacy and awareness of issues that affect students with a special emphasis on women within the MTSU Community. A feminist is anyone who believes in equal rights for men and women. The organization does not exclude male participation.

Can men go to the JAWC?
Men are welcome at the JAWC. Many services are open to everyone in the MTSU community. Issues that affect women affect the men who know them and care for them. Men are encouraged to get involved and volunteer at the JAWC.
