Services for the distance learner (including students taking online, correspondence, and videoconferencing) include:
- library research assistance,
- instruction in using the online catalog and full-text electronic databases,
- and the ability to borrow books from the James E. Walker Library.
Students not living in Rutherford County who have no on-campus classes are also eligible to request that books and copies of periodical articles be mailed to them. Reference services via email and telephone are also available. The Distance Learning Librarian will be happy to assist students with their academic and research needs, and may be reached at (615) 898-2535 or via email at ayork@mtsu.edu.
Adaptive Technlogy Center
The Adaptive Technology Center (ATC) is a branch of Disabled Student Services (DSS) and is located centrally on campus in the James E. Walker Library, room 174. The Center provides access to adaptive/assistive technology, which maintains or improves the functional capabilities of students with disabilities. The Center helps students with disabilities remove obstacles, achieve academic success, interact with their surroundings and lead a more independent life. It is through DSS’s ATC that many auxiliary aids and services are provided campus wide.
Adaptive technology stations that facilitate the computing needs of students with visual or learning disabilities are available at the MTSU Walker Library, KOM 350 University Computing Lab, and Wood-Felder housing lab. These stations feature special hardware and software such as: speech synthesizers; large monitors; Braille printers; scanners; and document cameras.
